LinguaAI is a suite of apps for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Apple Watch, and CarPlay. The AI-powered apps use a Bring Your Own Key model. LinguaTrans is a local-first CAT tool that uses no AI and needs no API keys; its only network use is the optional link to LinguaAI Admin, and only if you switch it on.

Specialized providers

  • ElevenLabs (transcription): elevenlabs.io, used in Studio for Scribe transcription.
  • Deepgram (transcription): deepgram.com, used in Studio for Nova-3 transcription.
  • Stability AI (images): platform.stability.ai, used in Studio for image generation.

Where to enter keys

Each app has a Settings or API Keys section. Keys are stored securely in your device's Keychain and sync across devices via iCloud Keychain. Set up once, works everywhere.

Keyboard shortcuts

  1. Select text in any application.
  2. Press your keyboard shortcut.
  3. LinguaAI processes the text with your assigned prompt.

Configure shortcuts and their assigned prompts in settings. There are no default shortcuts. You create the ones that work for your workflow.

Menubar access

Click the LinguaAI icon in your menubar to access the full chat interface, manage prompts, switch models, and configure settings.

Virtual machine usage

Running Windows through Parallels or another VM? Three-key shortcuts may not trigger when the VM is in focus.

Solution: Use two-key shortcuts instead. For example, use ⌃T instead of ⌃⌥T. Make sure your two-key combinations don't conflict with shortcuts in your Windows applications like Trados or MemoQ.

Transcribe

Real-time audio transcription in 16+ languages via ElevenLabs Scribe and Deepgram Nova-3. AI cleanup handles punctuation, paragraphs, and formatting automatically.

Studio

Create and transform text with AI. Use steering presets for long-form content generation, or run chained prompts to transform source text. The second prompt receives the result of the first, like a pipeline.

Shortcuts integration

Studio provides App Intents for Apple Shortcuts, so you can process text through AI from the Share Sheet, create automations, or trigger AI tasks with Siri.

Terminology extraction

Three AI modes. TM Glossary Extraction mines a translation memory (.tmx, .xml) for term pairs and a style guide. Text Analysis does the same from source documents (.docx, .doc, .pdf, .txt). Document to Word runs Mistral OCR over PDFs and scans. All three use your own API keys.

File conversion

Twelve local modes, all running on your Mac with no API calls and no account: Word, Excel, Subtitle (.srt) and XML to XLIFF and back; Trados (.sdlppx), memoQ (.mqxlz) and Wordfast Pro (.glp) package unpack and repack; TM to TMX; TMX merge; TM Variant Split; Bilingual File to TMX; and Termbase conversion.

Convert Back is confirmed-only

When a translated XLIFF is rebuilt into its native format, only confirmed segments ship their translation. Unconfirmed segments keep the source text, so a half-finished file looks half-finished rather than done. This is deliberate and has no toggle.

Translation memory and glossary

Every project has a memory, with fuzzy matching, concordance search, and pre-translate. Memories and glossaries can also live in a memory library, filed under the client they belong to, so every job for that client draws on the same ones. Import CSV or tab-delimited glossaries. Sanctioned terms highlight green in the target; missing terms show a red marker on the source.

Quality assurance

The QA report runs thirteen checks across the whole project: Glossary, Rejected terms, Tags, Invalid tags, Numbers, Punctuation, Capitalization, Whitespace, Untranslated, Repeated word, inconsistent target for the same source, inconsistent source for the same target, and Comments. Run all of them or any subset, and export the result as HTML or PDF. In the editor the checks run live and collect into filterable sidebar buckets, non-blocking by design, with Consistency Check also available as its own tab.

Suite integration

LinguaTrans hands off files to LinguaAI Pro for AI pre-translation and review, and to LinguaAI Terminology for file format conversion (Word, Excel, subtitles, XML). Single-click handoffs in both directions. LinguaReview, the reading companion for iPhone, iPad and Mac, exports its flags and comments as a sidecar file that LinguaTrans picks up from the project folder.

Prompt library

Save frequently used prompts for quick access. Your prompt library syncs via iCloud across all devices and apps.

Personal styles

Define custom response styles to match your preferences. A "concise" style for brief answers, a "technical" style for in-depth explanations, or anything in between.

Model selection

Switch between AI models and providers freely. Use Claude for one task, GPT for another, Gemini for a third. Each prompt or conversation can use a different model.

Extended thinking

Enable extended thinking mode for complex problems requiring deeper analysis. Available for supported models.

Web search

Grant AI access to web search for queries requiring real-time information.

Prompt caching

For supported models (Claude and GPT), enable prompt caching to reduce costs and speed up responses.

Privacy and security

Your data never passes through intermediary servers. API keys are stored in your device's Keychain. All AI requests go directly from your device to the provider. LinguaAI cannot access your prompts, conversations, or API keys.
